THE CALDONIAN CANAL & THE GREAT GLEN WAY

The voyage will begin in Inverness on Saturday, the 4th of September 2027 at 1500hrs

The voyage will end in Oban on Friday, the 10th of September 2027 at 0900hrs

A 6-night voyage from Inverness to Oban offers a remarkable crossing of the Scottish Highlands by water, following the historic spine of the Caledonian Canal from the North Sea to the Atlantic. Linking freshwater lochs with Scotland’s wild western seaways, this journey is less about open ocean passages and more about a gentle unfolding through glens, forests and legendary waters.

Embarking in Inverness at Muirtown Marina, before joining the Caledonian Canal and the vast expanse of Loch Ness. From here, Eda Frandsen makes her steady way south-west through Loch Oich and Loch Lochy, descending gradually through a series of beautifully engineered locks and swing bridges that carry us down the Great Glen.

There will be the opportunity to spend time ashore throughout the voyage. Explore Inverness’ riverside streets before departure, wander the towpaths at Fort Augustus as boats rise and fall in the locks, visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle, or follow forest trails scented with pine and heather. As we approach the west, Neptune’s Staircase lowers us gently back towards sea level, where the freshwater of the canal gives way once more to salt water and the open Atlantic beyond.

All meals are freshly prepared on board. Expect hearty Highland fare, seasonal Scottish produce, warming soups, fresh bread, local cheeses and generous puddings served around the saloon table as evening light softens across the glen.

As with all of our journeys, our daily schedule is shaped by canal opening times and weather conditions, allowing us to make the most of scenic moorings and welcoming communities along the route. While timings may vary, our experienced crew ensure a smooth and rewarding passage through this iconic waterway.

Your voyage is fully inclusive, with all onboard meals covered in the price. Our adaptable chef is happy to cater to dietary needs, while you choose your own level of involvement — helping with lines at the locks, learning about the canal’s remarkable engineering, or simply enjoying the rare pleasure of crossing Scotland from coast to coast aboard a traditional sailing vessel.
