Voyages in Norway
In 2027, Eda Frandsen is set to embark upon a grand adventure to a place we have been longing to visit…If you have sailed with us in the last couple of years, you will know it has been on the cards for a while. That's right, in 2027, Eda Frandsen is going to Norway!
The Norwegian coastline is one of the most intricate and intriguing in the world, with its deep Fjordland furrowing for miles amongst its tall peaks and mountains, creating a breathtaking backdrop for exploration under sail. The closer you look at Norways widning coastline, the more you will find to explore, and we can think of no closer way to see it than waking up at anchor onboard Eda Frandsen.
A region with a rich maritime culture and heritage, the Norwegian inhabitants of the country's West Coast have built a livelihood from the sea for generations. Eda Frandsen herself was built as a North Sea fishing vessel in 1938, and we felt it was about time she returned to her native waters.
6-night voyages from Bergen
We will begin our Norwegian cruising in 2027 by exploring the Fjordland region of Norway from the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bergen.
Step aboard in the historic Bryggen district of Bergen, where the painted wooden houses with their steep roofs flow right to the waterfront. From here, we plan to head North, journeying around the islands of Askoy, Radoy & Herdla, towards Sognesfjord, Norway’s largest Fjord and home to some of the most breathtaking cruising in the world. Sognesfjord is the longest and deepest fjord in Norway, stretching over 100 miles inland from the North Sea, right into the heart of the mountains. A remote sailing area, its inland waters and outlying islands are just begging to be explored under sail.
Weather in Norway
The summer weather in Norway is not dissimilar to the summer weather in Scotland; weather moves quickly across the region in systems. If anything, the baseline temperature of both air and sea in the Southern Norwegian region is a little warmer. With air temperatures from 15-25 °C and sea temperatures of 13-15°C. Just like Scotland, it can be both sunny and wet, and we recommend bringing waterproof layers for hiking ashore.
Our 6-night voyages are centred on time spent under sail, typically sailing for 4–6 hours each day, before dropping anchor, or mooring alongside local communities each evening. Venture ashore by dinghy to explore the many hiking opportunities that this unspoilt region has to offer. There is time ashore at each stop — to explore, wander, or simply take in the stillness of these remarkable places. Travelling by boat allows access to places few ever reach, revealing the coast at its most intimate and wild
6-night voyages from Stavanger
Join us onboard Eda Frandsen for a high-summer adventure along Norway’s spectacular south-west coast. In August, when the days are long and the light lingers late into the evening, we will explore the dramatic fjords and island-studded seascapes that surround the vibrant harbour city of Stavanger.
A little further south than Bergen, this region is known as the Bay of Islands, and pairs a landscape of archipelagos with wide, windswept beaches.
Step aboard in Stavanger’s historic Vågen harbour, where white wooden houses climb the hillside above the waterfront and fishing boats still share the quay with modern yachts. Casting off from the city, we head north into the sheltered waters of the Boknafjord and beyond, weaving between low-lying islands, narrow sounds and open stretches of sea shaped by wind and tide.
Our 6-night voyage may take us into the awe-inspiring Lysefjord — home to the iconic Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) — or westwards towards the wild beaches and open horizons of the Jæren coastline. Granite cliffs rise steeply from deep blue water, waterfalls tumble after summer rain, and remote anchorages offer complete tranquillity beneath vast Nordic skies. August brings a special quality of light: warm evenings, golden reflections on still water, and the chance to swim from smooth rock ledges in sheltered coves.
Our voyages are centred on time spent under sail, typically sailing for 4–6 hours each day before anchoring in peaceful bays or mooring alongside small coastal communities each evening. Venture ashore by dinghy to hike dramatic cliff-top trails, wander through quiet island villages, or simply sit with a view that feels almost impossibly vast. Travelling by traditional sailing vessel allows access to places few ever reach.

Heading south from Bergen, we encounter the beautiful Hardangerfjord region, also known as the “Orchard of Norway”, famed for its bountiful fruit farms and blend of impressive landscape with traditional heritage and culture.
Cruise the Norwegian Coastline under sail to the Bay of Islands area of Stavanger, where island hopping commences, ending our voyage with a visit to the iconic Pulpit Rock in Lysefjord.

“Eda Frandsen is a remarkable piece of history in her own right, and the love and care that Mungo and Stella have invested in her restoration and modifications are exceptional, making her a truly unique vessel.
They went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed the best weather, found the best anchorages, and witnessed all the incredible wildlife the region has to offer.
This trip is honestly one of the best I’ve ever done, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.
Thank you, Mungo and Stella, for an extraordinary journey!”
For voyages in Norway, both Bergen and Stavanger are remarkably easy to reach from the UK and mainland Europe. Each city has an international airport with regular connections via hubs such as Oslo, Amsterdam, and Copenhagen, making travel straightforward from London and other major cities. On arrival, both airports are located close to the city centre with fast and reliable public transport links, allowing guests to move easily from the airport to the harbour. Whether joining in Bergen or Stavanger, we have aimed to make this journey as easy as possible. The full joining instructions and Kit List are available to download beneath each voyage description.
Things to do in Bergen
Bergen is a really fun city, with plenty of things to do and places to explore. When we are there, we will definitely be swimming at the Nordnes Sjøbad, the public, open-air swimming baths on the seafront. Eating at Lola’s, hiking up to the top of Mount Floyen to take in the views and visiting the Bergen Maritime Museum
