Artists Adventure Series

Over the years onboard Eda, we have been fortunate enough to host some wonderful creatives, artists, musicians and thinkers.

All the way back in 2022, we invited printmaker Mimi Robson onboard for a printmaking under-sail voyage. All I knew was that I loved her work; her ability to capture the way light hit water felt so fitting for an early spring sailing.

What transpired was a beautiful ensemble of women playing with texture, form and feeling in what felt like the first time in many years. Printmaking and its playful, peaceful momentum fell perfectly into the rhythm of being at sea.

At the end of that summer, we were speaking to our (then) new friend, Charlie Grey, about his love of the places that we sail, and how much of his musical repertoire came from these places. He said he wanted to run a voyage whereby we would visit the very locations that these songs and tunes were built from. And so began our tour of Ardtornish, Lismore, and Loch Drumbuie, listening, learning, playing and singing together alongside the bellowing September stags.

I first met Catherine for my Yacht Masters exam in 2018. We spent a week navigating coastal waters and practising man overboards under sail, and left as fast friends. She has sailed with us several times since, most recently leading a week of painting, or sketchbooking under sail as I like to call it. Glorious and fortuitous, May sunshine graced our deck as eight of us shared notes on the perfect sunset.

In September 2026, we hosted our first Islandness Gathering onboard Eda Frandsen.

Hannah Close is a writer and artist exploring islandness and the genius loci, or ‘spirit of place ’, working with words, photography and film. A Stone Made of Circle, an island waybook, is out in winter 2027 with Humans & Nature Press. She is also making a documentary called Islandness.

The week offered our crew the chance to both step back and dive deep simultaneously, with facilitated discussions around deep time, the age of islands, the creatures that inhabit them and the definition of an island itself.

We will be hosting Hannah again in May 2027 for a second round of Islandness to continue these discussions. If you would like to find out more, you can follow the link here.
